Approaches to education for children with disabilities to be promoted
PANO – The ASEAN Intergovernmental Committee on Human Rights (AICHR), the National ASEAN Secretariat of Vietnam, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) held a workshop on promoting approaches to education for children with disabilities on December 13 in Da Nang city.
At the workshop, participants discussed
current situation and demand for education of children with disabilities in the
region as well as solutions to boosting regional cooperation for developing an
agenda on this issue.
They held that children with disabilities
would promote their capabilities when provided with favorable schooling conditions.
Delegates acknowledged the achievements in promoting the rights to
education of children with disabilities over the past time. International conventions and regional
commitments such as ASEAN Community Vision 2025, ASEAN Human Rights
Declaration, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
were also mentioned as fundamental documents for the enhancement of cooperation in
this field.
Addressing the workshop, Deputy Minister
of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia stressed that the Government of
Vietnam has always attached special importance to quality, friendly and equal
education for children with disabilities. The State, families and society of
Vietnam have provided conditions for all children to be treated and enjoy
schooling equally so as to best promote their capabilities and integrate into
the community.
