In Vinh Hien commune, Phu Loc district, the command disseminated information about national sea and islands, and the combat against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. It gave national flags and leaflets to nearly 150 fishermen and trawlers’ owners and encouraged locals to commit themselves to not violating IUU fishing.

On the occasion, the command presented 50 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to disadvantaged fishermen in Phu Loc district.

Senior Colonel Tran Hong Que, Deputy Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, said that in the time to come, the unit would team up with the Party committees and authorities of six Central coastal provinces and cities to organize a number of practical and effective activities to help develop local economy and locals’ spiritual and material life. They would raise locals’ awareness of obeying the Party’s guidelines, the State’s law, and locality’s regulations and joining efforts to remove the E.C.’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood, as well as making active contribution to local development.

In the program “Coast guards and ethnic and religious people” launched in Hong Van mountainous commune, A Luoi district, the medical staff of the command joined hands with local doctors and nurse to provide free health check-ups, health consultation, and medicines for nearly 100 ethnic minority people. The organizers also encouraged locals to eliminate backward customs. They presented 50 gifts to local disadvantaged families and Uncle Ho portraits to local ethnic minority families.

* The same day, during the program “Coast guards stand side-by-side with fishermen” in Duyen Hai town, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command informed participants with regulations on anti-IUU fishing, current situations of national sea and islands, basic contents of the Law of the Sea of Vietnam, the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard, and the Law on Vietnam Fisheries and penalties for violations of anti-IUU fishing of some countries with waters bordering Vietnam.

Also at the event, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command presented 120 gifts to local policy beneficiary families and fishermen in need, 200 national flags and 50 life jackets to fishermen and owners of trawlers.

Senior Colonel Cao Xuan Quan, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 3 Command, said that with sentiments and responsibilities, the coast guard region always supports local people and fishermen in holding onto the sea and contributing to firmly safeguarding the nation's maritime sovereignty.
