The Government leader required the ministry to submit the report within June. The move came after the aviation sector has reportedly faced various challenges, most notably the shortages of pilots and aircraft technicians.

Vietnam Economic Times reported that the domestic aviation sector has enjoyed robust growth over the past decade with the number of airlines increasing from one to five, namely Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific, Vasco, and Bamboo Airways. The sector now has a total of 192 aircraft registered for operation.

The rapid growth has led to infrastructure - related challenges and the shortages of qualified staff. Fierce competition exists among airlines as operational carriers have reportedly scrambled to retain their workers once new players enter the market.

The aggressive competition was admitted by Transport Minister Nguyen Van The at a Q&A session held during the seventh session of the 14th National Assembly that wrapped up last week.

This has been attributed to new players seeking ways of luring qualified workers from other airlines, including the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, instead of employing overseas workers or training employees on their own.
