The Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2020 drew a lot of tourists, thanks to the beautiful landscapes and flowers in Sa Pa, such as terraced rice fields, cherry blossoms, and primeval forests. More than 2,200 runners competed in various races, including distances of 10km, 42km, 70km and 100km

100km runners had to depart at 21:00 on November 20. They ran overnight across high mountains. On the early morning of the next day, they watched a sea of clouds in Sa Pa.

On November 21, the remaining runners started running through terraced fields and villages. Anais, a Belgian tourist, said that “The local people are hospitable. They cheered as we ran by.”

On the track, runners saw cherry blossoms on O Long Sa Pa tea hill which is near the O Quy Ho pass.

David Lloyd, Director of Sports for Topas Group, said that the race had been postponed many times due to COVID-19 and the organizers were very happy to organize this race and see the participating runners’ enthusiasm, although the number of runners was lower this year than in 2019.

According to the organizers, Vietnamese runner Quang Tran finished the men’s 100km event first at a time of 13 hours 01 minutes and 11 seconds. Tran was followed by French tourists RomainBerion and GaetanMorizur.

Since its inception, the Vietnam Mountain Marathon has raised some USD 300,000 for charity. This year, the proceeds will be used to fund projects in Sa Pa and programs conducted by Operation Smile, Newborns Vietnam and Blue Dragon. The race is organized by Topas Travel under the auspices of Topas Ecolodge resort - the finish line of the race.
