PANO - By 2030, Vietnam will recognize from 25 to 30 geoparks at the national and global levels.
It is the objective of the project on preserving geological heritages, developing and managing network of geoparks in Vietnam that the Prime Minister approved recently.
This project will be implemented from now till 2020 in provinces and cities which are home to geological heritages, namely Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Son La, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Gia Lai, Dac Lac, Dac Nong, Lam Dong, Dong Nai, Vinh Long, Ca Mau and Kien Giang.
Under this project, many scientific studies on geological heritage preservation and geopark development and management will be conducted. Besides, regulations, policies on preserving and using reasonably geological heritages and geoparks will be completed together with raising public awareness on the issue and promoting international cooperation. The project aims at completing the general study on the possibility of building 25-30 geoparks in Central and Southern Vietnam by 2020 and expand the national network of national- and global-level geoparks by 2030.
