From age-old traditions to tireless efforts in peacetime, the country is turning a new page, ready to contribute to peace and shared prosperity in the region and the world.
From historical flow to new era
Throughout Vietnam's history of construction and defense, the people have remained the core, solidarity the strength, and social justice the developmental foundation. From the Hung Kings to heroes like Hai Ba Trung, Ngo Quyen, and Tran Hung Dao, the tradition of “unity for the country” became a vital weapon, ensuring the nation never succumbed to invaders.

In the 20th century, President Ho Chi Minh transformed that national tradition into a revolutionary strategy, famously stating, “Unity, unity, great unity! Success, success, great success.” This unified strength fueled the 1945 August Revolution, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and sustained two resistance wars. The 1954 Dien Bien Phu Victory, described as “stunning five continents, shaking the Earth,” and the 1975 Great Spring Victory exemplified this collective will for independence and freedom.
In peacetime, unity has driven national renewal and development. Since the historic 1986 shift to a socialist-oriented market economy, four decades of Doi moi have evolved Vietnam from a war-torn nation into a premier success story of the developing world.
Imprint of 2025: Economic miracle and diplomatic stature
In 2025, Vietnam’s economy ranked 32nd globally, maintaining its status among the world’s fastest-growing nations. Aiming for at least 8% GDP growth in 2025 and double digits from 2026, the country leverages 17 FTAs to integrate deeply into global supply chains.
Beyond statistics, Vietnam has evolved from an embargoed past into an indispensable link in sectors from semiconductors to smart agriculture. This growth prioritizes environmental and social equity, evidenced by GDP per capita surging from USD 498 in 2000 to over USD 4,000 in 2024.
Diplomatically, Vietnam maintains relations with 194 countries, achieving an unprecedented milestone by establishing comprehensive strategic partnerships with all five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.
Pauline Tamesis, U.N. Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, noted the country’s pro-active integration based on equality and international law. This stature was reaffirmed on October 14, 2025, when Vietnam was re-elected to the U.N. Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term with the highest votes in the Asia-Pacific group.

Major celebrations of nation: Memories and the present
2025 marked a milestone year as Vietnam celebrated the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day, alongside the 80th anniversaries of the August Revolution and National Day.
Hanoi was transformed by festive red flags and flowers. French-Vietnamese director François Bibonne, a seven-year resident, called Hanoi "the most beautiful city in Southeast Asia," noting the profound community spirit during the military parades. Meanwhile, Chuck Searcy, a U.S. veteran who returned in 1992 to aid postwar recovery, described Vietnam’s modernization as a "miracle." He praised the nation's astonishing transformation into a prosperous, resilient, and humane country that remains deeply rooted in its identity.
Vietnam’s aspiration in concept of a “new era of rise”
From a golden history to a radiant present, 2025 marked a transition from economic integration to comprehensive integration across all pillars. Not only a dynamic economy, Vietnam is becoming a bridge for dialogue, a symbol of peace, and a responsible member of the international community. The country is deeply involved in global issues such as green transition, food security, and peacekeeping, affirming our prestige even amidst complex global fluctuations.
In a world full of uncertainties and disruptions, Vietnam emerges as a typical example of stability and reliability. When Vietnam sends peacekeepers to Africa, or commits to Net Zero by 2050, these are not promises to please the international community, they are declarations of a nation that understands the pain of division and poverty, thus cherishing peace and prosperity more than anyone. Vietnam is using its own story of overcoming difficulties to inspire other nations, affirming that: The past can be a burden, but it can also be the greatest launchpad.
As Pauline Tamesis likened, Vietnam today is like a “giant rising up,” a nation not only participating but ready to lead in global efforts. Vietnam’s aspiration for 2026 goes beyond growth figures, it is an aspiration for a nation that is: Confident - Pro-active - Reliable.
Vietnam is not only retelling the heroic history of its ancestors, but also writing new chapters with the bravery and wisdom of the Ho Chi Minh era. A Vietnam that preserves traditions but constantly innovates; loves peace but remains resilient and brave, is confidently stepping out into the world, affirming its position as a trusted partner in the new era.
