The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Do Van Chien, and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia, among others.

The awards marked the 10th year of implementing the Politburo’s Conclusion No.16-KL/TW on the external information development strategy for the 2011-2020 period. Over the past decade, external information has made positive contribution to the country’s information and education work as well as the Party’s  and State’s achievements in external affairs.

The organizing panel received over 1,000 entries in 14 languages which were published as articles in print and online newspapers, websites licensed by competent agencies, radio and TV broadcast, press and landscape photos, and books. Notably, many foreign authors and press agencies, overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese embassies abroad sent works to the awards.

The organizers honored 102 best entries, including one special, 10 first, 19 second, 29 third and 43 consolation prizes. The People’s Army Newspaper won one second and two consolation prizes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed that the external information service has provided timely, accurate and adequate information related to the national major events, the socio-economic development, and defense and security affairs for the communities at home and abroad. These have contributed to displaying the country’s image as a trustful partner and an active and responsible member of the international community.

Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that Vietnam consistently implements the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, development, multilateralisation and diversification of relations as well as active international integration. He asked the sector to focus on raising the public awareness of external information in line with the effective implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, contributing to bringing Vietnam to the world and the world closer to Vietnam.

In addition, he urged the sector to renew the external information work by adopting advanced technologies to improve quality, thus ensuring correctness, timeliness, attractiveness, relevance and efficiency in multiple languages.
