Located on Tran Quang Dieu, precinct 3, Ho Chi Minh City is a small house which acts as the headquarters for international World Doctor Organisation, assisting tens of thousands of poor and HIV/AIDS-infected patients. There, Vincent Trias, a French citizen, is the director. With sincerity and simplicity, this Frenchman is seen as a person with a French heart and Vietnamese soul.

Whole hearted support for patients with HIV/AIDS

Vincent said his organisation has cooperated with the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department and other health partners in carrying out various activities to support poor patients and those infected with HIV/AIDS.

As a leader, Vincent does not mind contact with his patients, hugging and massaging those infected with the deadly disease. “Many Vietnamese don’t have an understanding of this disease so they show their discrimination towards AIDS patients. Actually, AIDS is like other diseases. It is even more difficult to be infected than some diseases such as hepatitis-B. Two important factors, the virus recipients and sufficient amount of virus, play an important role in spreading the disease”, explained Vincent.

Knowing that Vietnamese often trust foreigners, Vincent makes contact with patients because a foreigner hugging an AIDS patient displays the low level of risk.

In his free time, Vincent often visit patients at the Tropical Disease Hospital, Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital or at their houses. Thanks to his kind-heartedness, a lot of patients now live like other people and believe in life as they no longer suffer discrimination in society.

Hearted-interests in Vietnam

Coming to Vietnam 8 years ago, Vincent had fell in love with the country and its people. “I seem to have been drugged”, joked Vincent. “Vietnamese are very friendly. A stranger I met on my way could smile at me. Whileas, in France, someone might demand in France “What are you looking at?”, he confided.

Returning France later, he tried to study Vietnamese. Chance smiled at him in 2004 when he was assigned as the director of World Doctor Organisation in Vietnam.

Apart from speaking Vietnamese, Vincent can speak some ethnic languages in Vietnam. He plans to open a private company in Vietnam and settle in this beautiful country. Explaining the plan, he said in Vietnam, he had a significant job, many friends and a Vietnamese wife who his life with him.
