On November 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training cooperated with the Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) Newspaper to organize a ceremony to present the 20th Vo Truong Toan Awards to 40 outstanding teachers and educational managers of the city.

Addressing the event, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated the teachers and managers and emphasized that the city’s leadership and people place their trust in the contingent of teachers, managers and workers of the education and training sector and hope that they would further contribute to and foster high quality personnel for the city’s development.
Since its debut in 1998, the award has honored 576 outstanding teachers and educational managers.
On the same day, in Hanoi, the National Economics University marked the day and its 40 years of post-graduate training programs, and received the Third-class Labor Order.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and the university’s leadership inaugurated a library named after late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong - the first honorable rector of the university. The library is located inside the school’s modern training building.
Also on November 19, a scientific seminar themed “Role of social sciences and humanities in socio-economic development and international integration” drew the participation of more than 300 domestic and international delegates.
More than 100 reports were presented at the seminar, which was jointly held by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Binh Duong province-based Thu Dau Mot University, highlighting the vital role of social sciences and humanities in the social life of the people. They also provided scientific grounds for policy-makers to map out right policies for national construction, development and protection.
Meanwhile, on November 19, 114 female students keen on studying and overcoming difficulties to get good academic records in Nam Dinh province received the Asia scholarships granted by the Asia Foundation, the Nam Dinh provincial Study Promotion Association and the Vietnam Study Promotion Association Development and Education Center. Each student will receive VND 2 million a year until they graduate from high school.
Together with other military schools, the Tien Giang provincial Military School held a ceremony to celebrate the Vietnamese Teachers’ Day.
Over the past years, the school has completed its training, defense and security education missions.
Since early this year, it has cooperated with other schools to provide nearly 9,300 students with knowledge of defense and security.
In the coming time, it will pay due attention to improving the professionalism of its teachers and cadres, and teaming up with other local sectors and departments to better its missions.
