The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported that border guards in coastal provinces closely worked with local authorities to inform nearly 70,000 ships with around 350,000 crewmen of developments of the storm.

Relevant forces in the Southern region and Ho Chi Minh City evacuated more than 13,500 residents, from the places which might be badly affected by the storm, to safer sites.
PM Phuc held that Tembin is a super storm, which might result in and property losses. Thus, all localities have to keep a close watch on the movement of the storm; make good preparations to cope with the storm; do everything possible to minimize the storm’s aftermath; and join hands to resume normal life and production for people as soon as possible.
Additionally, the media agencies should keep people informed of the latest developments of the storm and popularize disaster-response skills to the public, he added.
The PM will send two Government’s missions to direct response activities in Tembin-hit areas.
According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the typhoon moves west-northwest at a speed of 15km per hour. Possibly on the night of December 25, the storm will hit waters from Ba Ria-Vung Tau to Ca Mau provinces at the strongest wind speed of about 100 per hour.
In the next 24 – 36 hours, the storm is forecast to move west to hit the mainland and cause strong wind and torrential rains from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau provinces.
* On December 24, the Ministry of National Defense issued a telegram to the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); the VPA’s General Department of Politics; the General Departments of Logistics and Defense Industry; the Commands of Military Regions 5, 7 and 9; the Vietnam People’s Navy; the Air Defense - Air Force Service; the Vietnam Border Guard; the Vietnam Coast Guard; and Army Corps 3, 4 and 18 to prepare forces and means to cope with storm Tembin.
A quick report said that all of these military units have now well prepared forces and vehicles to deal with consequences. More than 92,500 personnel and 3,500 vehicles are ready to be deployed to support victims of the storm.
* Particularly, the Staff Department of Military Region 9 actively instructed affiliated units to set relevant forces and equipment on standby, closely follow the developments of the storm, feed timely and sufficient information to local people and fishermen so that they can proactively find shelters and apply safety measures.
* The Ministry of Health also instructed its health departments of cities and provinces from Quang Ngai to Kien Giang and other agencies under the ministry to be ready to provide emergency and medical services for people during the storm and check-ups for people after the storm in the storm-hit provinces
* Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport requested relevant forces to make efforts to secure traffic order and safety during and after Tembin hit the mainland.
