On May 10, the Minister of Science and Technology signed Decision No.1226/QD-BKHCN to present the Ta Quang Buu Award 2018 to three scientists nominated by the Award Council, namely Dr. Tran Dinh Phong from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Van Hung from the International University under the National University of Ho Chi Minh City and Dr. Do Quoc Tuan, who received the young scientist award, from the Hanoi University of Science under the Vietnam National University.

Dr. Phong is the author of a scientific work in physics, entitled “Coordination polymer structure and revisited hydrogen evolution catalytic mechanism for amorphous molybdenum sulfide” published on the magazine of Nature in 2016.
Dr. Hung is the author of a scientific work in agrobiology, entitled “In vitro digestibility and in vivo glucose response of native and physically modified rice starches varying amylose contents” published on the magazine of Food Chemistry in 2015.
Dr. Tuan was presented with an award as a young scientist for his work in physics, “Higher dimensional nonlinear massive gravity,” published on the Physical Review in 2016.
Addressing the ceremony, the Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh emphasized that the Ta Quang Buu Award is held annually by the Ministry of Science and Technology to honor outstanding scientists in basic research in natural sciences and technology. After five years, the award has received positive evaluation and recognition from the scientific community. The minister added that the award has contributed to encouraging and motivating scientists as well as scientific and technological organizations towards high-quality research in Vietnam, creating an academic, creative and innovative environment to promote the development of strong research teams to carry out research at an international level.
There have been so far 227 nominees for the Ta Quang Buu Award while 14 scientists have been honored, including 11 outstanding scientists in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science and information technology, earth and environment sciences, biology and agriculture, and three young scientists in mathematics and physics.
Award-winning scientists received a certificate of the Minister of Science and Technology and an endowment of VND 200 million (for the main category) or VND 50 million (for the young scientist).
