The figure was revealed by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the Office of the National Steering Committee on Voluntary Blood Donation at a meeting held on July 30 in Hanoi to review the journey.

At the event, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh, Head of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, and head of the organizing panel of the Red Journey 2023, emphasized that the Red Journey has really aroused love and compassion, beautified the national tradition of mutual affection and mutual love, and helped build a compassionate community.

Red Journey is the biggest blood donation program in the year. Launched in 2013, it has proved its efficiency in overcoming the shortage of blood for patients in summer.

This year’s Red Journey, taking place from June 1 to July 30, drew the participation of 46 cities and provinces nationwide. Within two months, 308 blood donation drives were launched.

As reported, over the past 11 years, the Red Journey has been to 58 out of 63 cities and provinces of Vietnam, collecting a total of over 810,000 blood units.

Speaking highly of the contribution of the Red Journey to treatment and emergency aid to patients over the past one decade, Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Director of the Examination and Treatment Management Department under the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the journey has given strength to the health sector in many challenging stages, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
