At the launching ceremony for the campaign at the hospital on March 25, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Tuan Canh, NOH Director underscored organ donation is a symbol of human compassion that transcends life itself, with each donated liver, kidney, cornea or tissue able offer a life-saving opportunity to those teetering on the edge of death.

Thousands of patients await organ transplants every year, hoping for a second chance in life. However, the number of registered donors remains critically low compared to the overwhelming medical need, he added, calling for the hospital’s staff to set an example and inspire sympathy and sharing in the community.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Health Workers said that it is necessary to honor and take care of the living donors and the families of the dead ones. He also advocated for building rational policies regarding labor protection, social and healthcare insurances, and wage for medical workers who engage in the organ donation campaign.

Across the country, over 100,000 individuals have registered as organ and tissue donors, with 20,000 sign-ups in 2024. In the first months of 2025, there have been 21 cases of organ donation following brain death, half the number reported in the same period last year.
