The South Korean Kumho Asiana Group held a ceremony in Hanoi on December 6 to open the Kumho Asiana-Vietnam Scholarship and Culture Foundation (KVSC).
The fund has an initial capital of US $2 million contributed by Kumho Asiana’s members including Asiana Airlines, Kumho Tire Co. Ltd, Kumho Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd, Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd, Kumho Transportation Co. Ltd and Kumho Rent a Car Co. Ltd which are operating in Vietnam.
From February 2008, the foundation will grant scholarships to 220 poor students at universities, colleges and schools in Vietnam.
It also plans to organise support activities for students, such as cultural and art exchanges and a Korean language speaking contest which will help Vietnamese students to study in the RoK.
