The Ho Chi Minh City Cardiology Hospital will be upgraded to a 265-bed clinic at a cost of VND 200 million, said Dr. Nguyen Van Chau, Head of Ho Chi Minh City’s Health Department.

According to Dr. Phan Kim Phuong the clinic performs about 1,200 operations each year. That figure will go up to 2,000 cases when upgrades to the hospital are completed.

Since 1992, the hospital has performed heart surgery for 17,417 people, including 4,620 poor patients, at a cost of VND 98 billion, as well as trained 1,500 doctors nationwide.

On August 22nd, the hospital held a ceremony to receive the third-class Labour Medal, which was presented to Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Chieu, the former director of the hospital.
