Upon receiving information, the representative of the Thua Thien Hue Maritime Port Authority in Chan May sent the transport ship to the scene to rescue distressed crew-members of a fishing vessel who fell into the water. While searching for the distressed crew-members, the vessel’s warehouse caught fire.

Learning about the situation, Ship SAR 411 of the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Vietnam MRCC) Region I was mobilized to the scene for fire-fighting. The functional forces were urgently deployed to rescue distressed crew-members in the water and support the fire-fighting of the ship. Meanwhile, the on-site commanding officer directed the forces to evacuate all crew-members.

During the rescue operation, when signs of oil spill in Chan May Bay were detected, the port authority was notified to mobilize specialized vehicles and equipment to collect the spilled oil.

With close coordination among functional forces, all crew-members who fell into the water were rescued, given the first aid and brought ashore safely, while the fire was extinguished and all the spilled oil was collected. The vessel was towed to a safe location for repair.

According to Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration Le Do Muoi, the exercise completed the search and rescue organization system in the seaport waters in accordance with the economic conditions of the sea and the geographical location of the locality to effectively promote the four on-spot motto, while implementing the regulation on coordination in search and rescue between the Maritime Port Authority and relevant forces in the seaport waters, among others.

On the occasion, the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to five collectives and six individuals for their outstanding achievement in the exercise. The Vietnam Maritime Administration also handed over certificates of merit to 11 collectives and 20 individuals with achievements in the exercise.
