These days, despite heavy rains and strong winds in the locality, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the commune People’s Council Trieu Tien Thanh keeps coming to the site to check the progress of construction of the communal house.

According to official Thanh, Ai Quoc is a disadvantaged commune in Loc Binh district. So Hoa Binh village is. The village has 79 households with nearly 300 people, and 95 percent of them are from the Dao ethnic group.

At the ground-breaking ceremony of the cultural house

The Dao ethnic people live in a united and close-knit manner. They often discuss matters of the village and the country altogether. Therefore, a cultural house where the villagers gather for playing, studying, and doing other common activities is necessary. In 2000, a cultural house was built in the village. However, it has been seriously degraded, causing difficulties for the village to organize common activities. Knowing about that, the National Shooting Range Region 1 of Military Region 2 made a proposal to higher levels to build a cultural house for the village. The Ministry of National Defense decided to fund VND 2.5 billion for the building.

The news made both local authorities and people of Hoa Binh village and Ai Quoc commune happy and show their support. Chairman of the commune’s People's Committee Dang Van Quang donated 250 s.q.m of land and other households volunteered to donate an additional 1,000 s.q.m. for the project. Moreover, local people contributed hundreds of working days to clear the site.

Acknowledging the importance of this project, which includes a nearly 260 s.q.m house, a toilet system, a concrete yard, and a path, the communal Party and People’s Committees have directed village-level officials to keep a close watch on the construction process to ensure good quality of the facility.

When the house is put into operation, the village’s authorities and locals will be responsible for keeping it clean and preserving it as a “warm house of culture” of the village and the commune.
