Vietnamese enterprises are now able to manufacture more and more information devices. |
At a recently-held conference to review the information and communications industry in the first half of this year and deploy missions for the second half, MIC recalled that on January 17, 2020, the Military-Run Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) successfully made the first video call on a 5G network with Viettel-manufactured gNodeB devices.
In April 2020, VNPT announced that it succeeded in testing its VinaPhone 5G networks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. VinaPhone’s 5G network reached a speed of 2.2Gbps, ten times faster than the existing 4G network and has an ideal latency close to zero. These are positive figures that are close to the world’s 5G standard and are the best results as announced by the Vietnamese network operator. With the successful integration of the 5G network into its current network infrastructure, VNPT is ready in terms of technology and network infrastructure to launch a commercial 5G network.
According to the recent announcement of the VinSmart research and manufacture joint stock company of Vingroup, the company has successfully developed a smart phone using 5G technology named VsmartAris 5G. This smartphone is able to support two types of 5G technology of Sub6 and mmWave.
With this phone, VinSmart has become the first Vietnamese company to manufacture a terminal that supports 5G technology.
VinSmart’s success has confirmed Vietnamese enterprises’ capacity for designing and manufacturing hi-tech products, and allows Vietnamese people to have early access to world-class technological products. And the successful manufacturing of VsmartAris 5G showed that Vietnam is ready to develop and master the most cutting-edge core technologies.
In the coming time, as MIC’s Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said, the domestic telecommunications infrastructure will see an important shift and the deployment of the 5G network in Vietnam. The 5G introduction will enjoy several advantages as Vietnamese telecommunications and electronics enterprises are now able to manufacture more and more information devices and network equipment so it will be less dependent on foreign producers.
Hung added that in October, Vietnam will commercialize the 5G network with 100 percent of Made-in-Vietnam devices, an important step. Such domestically-made 5G networks will allow the country to develop socio-economy while ensuring national defense and security.

Also at the meeting, MIC said that a working group on 5G development in Vietnam was established to direct and give assistance to tech organizations and groups in researching, developing and applying the 5G technology in Vietnam. A 5G network produced by Viettel will be installed at MIC’s headquarters.
