Vientiane held a banquet on July 18 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty and the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The event was attended by General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and State President Choumaly Sayasone; National Assembly President Thongsing Thamavong; Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith; and Minister of Security Thongbane Sengaphone.
Truong Tan Sang, politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and Vice State President Truong My Hoa, who are on a visit to Laos to attend activities to celebrate the two significant anniversaries, were also present at the banquet.
Ambassador Nguyen Huy Quang reviewed important activities that the two countries have conducted over recent months to mark the two anniversaries, saying that the activities have helped consolidate traditional friendship and special solidarity between Viet Nam and Laos.
Lao Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith described the cooperative tradition between the two people as a solid foundation for revolutionary fruits preservation and national construction and development in each country.
The same day, the Lao Embassy in Ha Noi also hosted a reception to mark the two historical anniversaries.
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong of Viet Nam , and Bounnhang Vorachit, politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Vice State President, attended the event.
