Vietnam suffered more than 31,500 cyber attacks in the past year, according to the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCert).

Phishing attack cases increased by four times compared to last year, malware attacks increased 1.7 times and defacing remained flat.

Nguyen Khac Lich, VNCert deputy director, said that in the past year the agency had dealt with 5,104 phishing cases, 4.5 times higher than that of last year.

The centre also tackled 6,188 defacing cases, of those 252 cases related to government sites with the domain name ".gov.vn".

VNCERT co-operated with international agencies to handle and shut down 200 fake websites this year. The centre also held many drills on preventing cyber attacks on a national and international scale.
