The Government Inspectorate held a conference in Hanoi on January 11 to review its activities in 2007 and devise tasks for 2008.
A report delivered at the conference showed that as many as 13,937 out of nearly 15,000 inspections were completed in 2007, mostly focusing on sensitive issues such as land management, capital construction investment, State finance, customs as well as the implementation of social policies. More than VND6,000 billion and nearly US$700,000 as well as 6,400ha of land were returned to the State.
The report also showed that most petitions and complaints filed by the citizens came from localities where urban management and infrastructure construction projects were undertaken.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong acknowledged the inspection sector’s efforts in settling petitions and complaints in 2007, especially difficult pending cases. All the inspections, auditing, investigations, prosecutions and trials of corruption cases were conducted in a lawful manner.
The Deputy PM asked the sector to detect and report on newly emerging issues and give recommendations to Party organisations and administrations at all levels to better deal with the citizens’ petitions and complaints.
One of the important tasks for the sector in 2008 is to strengthen the Party building and rectification campaign, with criticism and self-criticism taking centre stage in the fight against corruption, said Mr Trong.
