President Ho Chi Minh said cadres and Party members should be role models, put their work first, and subordinate their personal benefits to the benefits of the Fatherland, the people, and the Party.

Bright example

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh set a bright example of sacrificing his personal benefits for the people and country.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Truong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute, said Ho Chi Minh was a charismatic leader, a decisive factor for success of the Vietnamese revolution.

Mr. Truong said, “Ho Chi Minh, the highest ranking leader who led Vietnam to win the French and American resistance wars, had a saying that Party members go first, the people follow, reflecting the people’s trust in cadres. Cadres’ words should match their actions. This was a momentum and strength of Vietnam’s victory in national salvation.”

Ho Chi Minh’s morality multiplied

People’s Teacher Tran Van Binh, former Director of the Institute of Culture and Development at the Ho Chi Minh Academy of Politics, said studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s morality is important to today’s national construction and development, when the Vietnamese Party and State are fighting degradation of political thought, ethics, and lifestyle, as well as manifestations of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” among cadres and Party members.

Mr. Binh said, “Everywhere from a family to society, the leader’s role is extremely important. If the leader of a family or a society is exemplary, other family members and people will confidently follow suit. The leader ‘s inspiration is very important.”

Prof. Dr. Hoang Chi Bao said leaders and Party members should train and reflect themselves, should not lead an irresponsible life, and should avoid temptation and decay, embodying the core value of Ho Chi Minh’s thought.

Mr. Bao said, “Looking around the workplace or place of residence, a Party member will find many noble but humble examples set by ordinary people. So Party members should voluntarily follow these examples and improve their ethics, considering these their regular tasks without being asked.”

Nguyen Viet Chuc, former deputy head of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents, and Children, called for human dignity and self-esteem and strict punishment of offenders.

He said, “Setting an example is one measure to make the Party pure, especially when we are building a law-governed State. Those who violate the law should be punished by the law. Nobody is beyond or above the law.”
