At the conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Quoc Cuong informed that 4.5 million Vietnamese people living abroad have lived in harmony and integrated into the host countries. In addition, 500 Vietnamese nationals’ associations worldwide have also played an important role in preserving and promoting the national cultural identity, as well as in developing the friendship between Vietnam and other countries.
In recent years, more young expats tend to return their homeland to run business and set up networks connecting entrepreneurs and intellectuals at home and overseas. Therefore, they have become important resources for the cause of national construction and development.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Cuong pointed out difficulties and challenges facing Vietnamese expats.
In the framework of the program, delegates discussed issues of OVs’ concern to continue reinforcing the national great unity bloc.
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh asked ministries and agencies to address these issues while perfecting mechanisms, policies and laws to create a favorable legal corridor for expats to return to the homeland.
