Two sets of remains of US servicemen repatriated
PANO - A ceremony to repatriate remains of US servicemen missing in action during the war in Vietnam was held at Da Nang International Airport on April 2.
The event was attended by representatives from the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) of the US, the US Embassy in Vietnam and the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese Government’s representatives handed over to the US side two sets of remains, which were found during the 134th Joint Field Activities from February to April this year. After thoroughly examining the remains, Vietnamese and US forensic specialists in Da Nang City concluded that these sets of remains might be associated with US servicemen missing during the past war in Vietnam.
Addressing the ceremony, the US Government’s representative highly appreciated the humanitarian policy, goodwill and the effective cooperation of the Vietnamese Government and people.
This is the 148th time Vietnam has handed over remains of US missing servicemen to the US side since 1973.
