Troops preparing for oil spill response
PANO – The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army on October 23 ordered military units to prepare forces and equipment for tackling a large oil spill.
This information was followed by a shipwreck in the Long Tau River, Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City.

Reportedly, Vietnamese-flagged container ship Vietsun Integrity sank in the river last Saturday, leaking tons of oil.
The Search and Rescue Department was tasked to work with Military Region 7 and relevant local units to check the incident and make recommendations to the Defense Ministry to respond to the case.
The Military Region 7 Command has been requested to team with the city’s forces and other functional agencies to ensure local order and security, and clean the environment while the Vietnam Border Guard High Command should direct its Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard Command to maintain traffic on the river, and the Naval and Coast Guard should prepare forces and vehicles for search and rescue missions on request.
