Troops help people overcome disaster fallout
PANO - According to the Office of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue, floods and landslides triggered by downpours in the past few days submerged 12,141 houses, flooded 18,382ha of rice and other crops, killed 299 cattle and 120,741 poultry. The total loss is estimated at about VND 1,099.5 billion.
On August 10, about 441 troops and 40 vehicles were deployed to search for missing people and help flood-hit victims overcome the consequences of natural disasters in Quan Son and Muong Lat districts of Thanh Hoa province. The forces found the body of a victim reported missing on August 9, repaired five houses, built two houses, upgraded 150m of roads in residential areas, and sprayed disinfectants to avoid epidemics. As of August 10, six people were reported missing.
Authorities of the provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Dak Lak, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, and Can Tho mobilized more than 570 troops, 17 vehicles, 65 buoys to evacuate flood-hit people. They also moved people and their property to safe areas, transported 90 tons of goods, and repaired 73 houses.
