Tens of thousands of troops stand ready for upcoming storm
PANO – Military units and localities in provinces from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa have mobilized 59,234 troops and militiamen and 1,360 vehicles of different kinds to cope with the 12th storm which is expected to make landfall in the Central region of Vietnam.
The information was announced by the Office of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue.
According to the office, border guards of the Central localities have cooperated with local authorities and people to update crewmembers of fishing and tourist boats and vessels on the development of the 12th storm, so as to move their vehicles out of dangerous areas. Troops also guided 59,752 boats to take refuge from the storm.
Regarding natural disaster mitigation in the Central region, the Ministry of National Defense instructed Military Regions 4 and 5 to mobilize 389 troops and militiamen and 43 vehicles of different kinds to clean up and repair houses and public structures. Troops also transported relief supplies to flood-hit people in Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Kon Tum provinces, and searched for missing people in Nam Tra My and Phuoc Son districts of Quang Nam province.
