In his opening speech, Political Commissar of the Vietnam Border Guard Command Lieutenant General Nguyen Anh Tuan highlighted the significance and efficiency of this program, which is in its 10th edition this year. The event, held nationwide, crossing all border areas, islands, has become the most effective and practical social security activities of the military, bringing cozy lunar New Year (Tet) holiday to the poor and joys to people in border, island and sea areas.

Addressing the event, State President Luong Cuong expressed his impressions and feelings when learning that despite hardships, many border posts and border guards have strived to launch movements, programs and models with humane spirit to help people in need with the “Border spring warms up people’s hearts” program as a highlight.
He asked ministries, sectors, departments, localities to continue to coordinate closely to implement the program in which the armed forces are the core and the border guard forces are responsible for the implementation.

Noting the importance of this year’s achievements to help the country confidently enter the new era, the State leader asked all forces to unite, join hands in making efforts, and take advantages of opportunities.
He hoped that troops and people nationwide continue to be united, contributing to managing and protecting territorial sovereignty, border security of the nation, and building prosperous border areas, and a border of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation, and development.

During the program, exchanges brightened the close ties between troops and people and the tradition of a revolutionary military born from the people and fighting for the people. In addition, typical artistic and cultural performances in the program praised the beauty of border areas and welcomed the new spring.
At the event, State President Luong Cuong presented 200 houses, totally worth VND 10 billion, to people in border areas of Lai Chau province and 11 gifts to local policy beneficiary families. Defense Minister Phan Van Giang also handed over 200 houses and many other gifts from the Ministry of National Defense to the provincial border people, poor households and many other gifts to policy beneficiaries and poor households in Sin Ho district.

The total value of donations from people across the country for border areas nationwide through the program is nearly VND 25 billion.
