Nui Thanh is the locality with the largest number of offshore fishing vessels in Quang Nam province, often operating in traditional fishing grounds. To help fishermen safely and legally fish at sea, Flotilla 129 has pro-actively coordinated with local party committees, authorities, and relevant agencies to accelerate legal dissemination to help fishermen feel secure to fish at sea.

During the event, naval troops focused on equipping fishermen with contents of the Prime Minister's Directive No.45/CT-TTg dated December 13, 2017, on urgent tasks and solutions to recover the European Commission’s warning on Vietnamese seafood for failing to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; Government Decree No.38/NĐ-CP dated April 5, 2024, on administrative penalties in the fisheries sector; and Resolution No.04/2024/NQ/HDTP dated June 12, 2024 of the council of judges of the Supreme People’s Court, guiding the enforcement of stipulations in the Criminal Code regarding the criminalization of IUU practices. They also briefed fishermen on the operational results of the ports and fishing villages in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago.

On this occasion, Flotilla 129 presented 200 national flags, 200 life jackets, and 600 leaflets with information about Directive No.45 and activities of ports and fishing villages in the Spratly Archipelago to local fishermen.
