Military Region 4 braces for more heavy rains and flooding

In Dong Hieu and Quynh Son communes and Quynh Mai and Hoang Mai wards in Nghe An province, floodwaters reached as high as 3 meters in some areas, causing property damage. The Nghe An provincial Military Command mobilized the maximum number of officers, soldiers, and local militia and self-defense forces to evacuate residents and their property to safe areas.

In Tong Son commune, Thanh Hoa province, the Hoat River rose and overflowed a section of the dike. The Military Command of Tong Son commune mobilized officers and soldiers to protect and reinforce the dike and evacuate elderly people and children to safety.

In Nong Cong commune, rapidly rising floodwaters isolated hundreds of households in Van Thien hamlet. The Military Command of Nong Cong commune promptly coordinated with other forces to evacuate residents to safe areas.

In Nga Son and Dien Quang communes, Thanh Hoa province, flooding damaged rice and crops nearing harvest. Hundreds of officers, soldiers, and militia members from the commune military commands went into the fields to help residents harvest their rice.

Amid the complicated developments of the flooding, the Military Region 4 Command asked agencies, units, and commune and ward military commands to pro-actively advise local Party committees and authorities on implementing the “four-on-the-spot” principle, while maintaining personnel on duty and keeping forces and equipment ready to respond to emergencies.

Key localities must inspect areas along rivers and streams, low-lying zones prone to flash floods and landslides to proactively relocate and evacuate residents. Forces must also be deployed to guard flooded areas and spillways, preventing people and vehicles from entering dangerous zones.
