In Cam Due commune, standing militia members recently practiced rescuing drowning victims at Ke Go Reservoir. Wearing life jackets, they maneuvered speedboats to approach victims, pull them aboard and administer first aid.
Lieutenant Colonel Bui Duc Huynh, Head of the Military Command of Cam Due commune, said the unit has prepared equipment and supplies, strengthened rescue training and established on-site militia rapid-response teams ready to deploy for natural disaster response and search-and-rescue missions.
In Son Kim 1 commune, militia forces conducted a flash-flood response drill, evacuating residents to safety while another team carrying life buoys searched along the riverbank for drowning victims.

Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Quang Chuong, Head of the Military Command of Son Kim 1 commune, said the area is particularly vulnerable during the rainy and flood season, making training essential to improve the militia’s ability to respond to emergencies.
Infantry Regiment 226 has also stepped up preparations ahead of the rainy and storm season. Boats, engines and other equipment have been inspected, maintained and repaired, while fuel reserves have been prepared for immediate deployment.
Colonel Bui Van Tuan, the regiment’s Commanding Officer, said the unit has coordinated with commune and ward military commands to advise local authorities on preparing boats, fuel, generators, chainsaws, food, medicine and other essential supplies.
With the rainy and storm season in 2026 forecast to be complex, the Ha Tinh Provincial Military Command has finalized disaster response and search-and-rescue plans tailored to each locality. Agencies, units and local authorities have strengthened coordination and prepared personnel, equipment and supplies under the “four on-the-spot” approach.

Following the principle of “pro-active prevention, timely response, and urgent and effective recovery,” the Provincial Military Command has directed units to update rescue plans and regularly inspect and maintain equipment.
So far, 148 boats of various types, 150 field tents, 3,250 life buoys, 30 command vehicles, 40 generators and chainsaws, along with other machinery and equipment, have been readied for flood and storm response.
The military commands of 69 communes and wards have also been directed to advise local authorities on helping residents, particularly those in high-risk areas, prepare essential supplies and equipment for emergencies.
Senior Colonel Nguyen Tu Tai, Second-in-Command of the Ha Tinh Provincial Military Command, said flood and storm response and search-and-rescue operations are considered a “combat mission in peacetime.”
