The military-civilian infirmary of Defense-Economic Unit 78 is located in Mo Rai commune, far from Sa Thay district’s medical facility in Kon Tum province. Due to difficult traffic conditions, over the past years, the ethnic minority groups in Mo Rai border commune have had their health checked here.
Lieutenant Bui Minh Ha, Head of the infirmary, held that due to poor travel conditions and lack of knowledge, many people do not have health insurance. However, the unit’s doctors and medical staff always give priority to saving and treating the locals.

We have coordinated with local authorities to mobilize them to eradicate unsound customs, change their lifestyle, and provide them with health check-ups,” added Ha.

Besides, the infirmary’s staff have also instructed ethnic minority groups on how to prevent common diseases with herbal medicines available in the area. Currently, many of them are using medicines given by the infirmary, and unsound customs have been gradually removed.
Talking about the effect of the dissemination work of the unit in the locality, Old A Tuoi, an elderly among ethnic minority groups in Mo Rai commune, noted that since the troops arrived in the areas, there have been fewer diseases among the locals than before.
Furthermore, the unit's troops have also extracted money from their salaries to support local residents in changing their living standards. Defense-Economic Unit 78’s Second-in-Command Colonel Nguyen Hong Thien said that the troops have donated money to the gratitude fund to assist needy laborers as well as ethnic minority groups in the locality.
