Distressed sailors rescued at sea
PANO – Six sailors of a troubled trawler were rescued on August 7 by functional forces on Phu Quy Island, announced the Binh Thuan Provincial Border Guard Command yesterday.
Previously, at 6:00 a.m. on August 7, the trawler coded Minh Khang CR 59, captained by Nguyen Viet Huy from Thai Binh province, had a hydraulic pump failure and its steering system did not work properly. The trawler met the trouble about 500m from Phu Quy Port when it was on a trip to Ninh Thuan.
Due to strong wind and high waves, the functional forces were not be able to reach the troubled trawler. Because the trawler was carrying five tons of DO oil, the functional forces required the trawler’s captain to lock all valves to prevent a possible oil spill.
The captain and his sailors then were taken ashore while the functional forces were implementing further measures to rescue the trawler.
