Coast guard forces further support Binh Thuan provincial fishermen
PANO - The Party Committees of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command and Binh Thuan province signed a coordination agreement on the mass mobilization of “Coast guard forces support fishermen” on September 12.
Under the deal, the two signatories will promote information dissemination to encourage local people to embrace the Party’s policies and guidelines and the State’s law and to update the coast guard forces on matters related to national security and sovereignty over seas and islands. They will mobilize various sources from society to assist fishermen in sustainable maritime economic development, contributing to the new-styled rural area building in coastal localities.
Binh Thuan has a coastline of 192km with the territorial waters covering 52,000sq.km. It is one of the three major fishing grounds of the country.
The province has more than 7,000 fishing boats and over 67,000 people working in aquatic product exploitation, processing and services.
According to Lieutenant General Hoang Van Dong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Command, since its launch two years ago, the “Coast guard forces support fishermen” program has helped raise awareness of people, especially fishermen in island communes and districts nationwide of the situations of the national seas and islands and the protection of the national sovereignty over seas and islands while fishing in open sea.
On the occasion, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command presented 200 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to local fishermen with adversity in life.
