Border guards rescue distressed workers at sea
PANO – Border guards of Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces took five workers in distress ashore on October 10 safely.
Previously, a barge of Kim Dong Co., Ltd. with five workers on board went adrift because of rough waves while anchoring in the Con Noi region of Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.
After receiving the mayday signal, soldiers of the Da Loc Border Post (the Thanh Hoa provincial Border Guard Command) and the Kim Son Border Post (the Ninh Binh provincial Border Guard Command) immediately sent their troops to the scene and asked local trawlers nearby to help with the search and rescue mission.
Due to an on-going low pressure system, it took the rescuers hours to locate the troubled barge. At that time, the barge was about three nautical miles from Ne Island of Thanh Hoa province.
As they approached the barge, the rescuers provided first aid to the distressed workers, who were completely exhausted due to seasickness, and then took them ashore. Ninh Binh border guards later towed the barge to Con Noi.
