Chief of the Border Guard Command Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai and Minister-Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs Hau A Lenh co-chaired the event.
According to a report delivered at the meeting, thanks to the two sectors’ efforts and determination and the concern of local party committees, and authorities, the coordination program was effectively carried out with important outcomes, contributing to promoting the role of ethnic minority people in border areas in socio-economic and cultural development and border management and protection.
Over the past five years, the two sectors have cooperated to mobilize ethnic minority people to carry out the Party’s guidelines, State’s policies and law, and localities’ regulations. They have also worked together to consolidate grassroots level political bases in border areas and guided local people to effectively carry socio-economic development programs and protect national sovereignty and border security.
In particular, their program, themed “Spring in border areas warms people’s hearts,” has handed over VND 1.889 billion, 105,000 gift packages, and 178 breeding cows to people in border localities. More than 100 projects have been built with the total investment of more than VND 95 billion.
Apart from reviewing outcomes, delegates also pointed out shortcomings and drew experience in carrying out the coordination program in the 2016-2021 period.

Having carefully discussed, the two sides agreed to sign coordination agreement on carrying out the program in the next five years.
According to the agreement, the two sides will work together to effectively implement their regular tasks and realize the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the 2021-2025 period.
