The event was chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Steering Committee.
It also saw the participation of Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; and leaders of the Military Medical Department, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the Department of Foreign Relations, the MND’s Office, the Military Medical University and Military Hospital 175.

During the event, representatives from the participating military units reported the activities of L2FH Rotation 2 in the UNMISS over the past time as well as the preparation for the operation of the L2FH Rotation 3.
In South Sudan, although the outbreak has started late in comparison with other countries, the COVID-19 pandemic is now complicated with a high risk of a quick spreading outbreak.
During the situation, under the direction of the MND’s Steering Committee on Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations and MND’s affiliated units, the L2FH Rotation 2 has actively taken measures to prevent and control the pandemic, as well as ensure security and safety for troops. Accordingly, positive COVID-19 patients were diagnosed, immediately quarantined, and received treatment.
Due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UN proposed and the Vietnamese government approved to extend the operation of the L2FH Rotation 2 to four more months as scheduled, to February 2021.
Concluding the meeting, General Vinh hailed the MND’s affiliated units for their task accomplishment and their recommendations and directions on anti-COVID-19 work to Vietnamese peacekeepers serving in the UN missions. Meanwhile, theL2FH Rotation 2 was applauded for actively carrying out finding solutions to problems in the fight against the disease.
The Deputy Defense Minister agreed with the proposed contents made by the participants at the meeting and assigned the MND’s functional agencies to build up an urgent project to add more equipment for anti-COVID-19 activities as well as to promptly commend individuals and collectives with outstanding accomplishments in this work.
