Addressing the opening ceremony, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Center’s leader informed that Vietnam has dispatched 12 officers to UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic since its official engagement in UN peacekeeping operations in 2014.

Vietnam has actively prepared personnel and equipment for the level-2 field hospital and an engineering company while focusing on training both servicemen and servicewomen for UN peacekeeping missions as required, the Vietnamese officer added.

On the occasion, he thanked Golden West for its effective assistance for the center in opening pre-deployment training courses over the past time.

According to Country Director of Golden West in Vietnam Lee Moroney, the course aimed to equip Vietnamese officers to be engaged in UNPKO with basic knowledge of UXO in order to ensure safety during undertaking their tasks at UNPKO, especially in South Sudan where the conflict has been taking place for years. The opening of this course is part of the activities to promote mutual understanding and expertise cooperation on peacekeeping operations between Golden West and relevant agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam.
