Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivers a speech at the ceremony |
At the event, delegates recalled the history and traditions of the Border Guard force over the past 60 years.
From its inception, the People’s Armed Police Force (the precursor of the Border Guard) was established on March 3, 1959 under Decision 100/TTg of the Prime Minister. On March 28, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh visited the force and taught the force: promoting solidarity, vigilance and braveness, as well as being loyal to the Party and the Vietnamese people, to name but a few. This has been a remarkable event, which marks the birth of a special force in charge of protecting national borders. March 3 since then has been observed as the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Border Guard.
Following the Party’s guidelines and the President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts on people’s strength in the national protection and defense cause, the Council of Ministers (now the Vietnam’s Government) issued Resolution 16/HDBT on March 22, 1989 observing March 3 as the Whole People’s Border Day of the country. At the third session of the 11th National Assembly, the Law of National Border was ratified, and the Whole People’s Border Day began to be marked.
After 30 years observing the Whole People’s Border Day, all border localities of the country have been developed significantly in terms of politics, economy, culture, society and defense-security.
In addition, the force has carried out various programs to support ethnic minority people such as building 7,000 gratitude houses, worth VND 241 billion for needy households, presenting 25,000 cows to disadvantaged people, and assisting over 2,800 needy students to continue their study.
The Border Guard has so far been honored a large number of precious awards, such as the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Force”, the Golden Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order, the Independence Order, to name but a few.
