The meeting saw the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy-Defense Minister; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Phuong Nam, Vice-Chief-of-the-General Staff; Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Vice-Chief-of-the-General Staff; and Major General Le Hien Van, Deputy-Director of the VPA’s General Department of Politics.

Delivering a report, Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong affirmed that this year, the VPA’s General Staff directed and instructed affiliated agencies and units in the entire army to seriously maintain a combat readiness posture, and make recommendations to the Military Party Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to roll out measures to address all military-defense matters and build up the socio-economy in combination with consolidating defense and security.

Additionally, the whole army units closely worked with relevant bodies and agencies to ensure safety at the country’s major events, further enhanced training quality, successfully conducted exercises, mastered weapons and equipment, and actively joined hands to promptly respond to search and rescue missions.

In addition, reports at the congress also pointed out shortcomings and mapped out orientations and schedules for the next period, especially in fields of education and training, building up strong Party organizations and comprehensively strong units at all levels, and the implementation of State laws and army regulations.

Concluding the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang hailed the outcomes of the staff work in the whole army in 2017, adding that, next year, army units should focus on promoting combat readiness and training quality, fully grasping all local situations to recommend higher levels to promptly and effectively handle any circumstances, seriously implementing resolutions on military-defense tasks, using well-staffed weapons and equipment, successfully carrying out exercises, and actively conducting search and rescue missions if required.
