PANO - The revolutionary base named Ban Co was a key spring-board for the armed forces to storm the enemies’ military entrenched fortifications.

That was one of the various evaluations on the importance of this base in the resistance war against foreign invaders, made on September 4th at a seminar held by the Ho Chi Minh City High Command and Party Committee of Precinct 3 of Ho Chi Minh City.

The seminar on Ban Co revolutionary base

The Ban Co revolutionary base linked Sai Gon (now Ho Chi Minh City)-Gia Dinh with contiguous areas. It was a stronghold helping build and develop the revolutionary combat movement right inside the enemy controlled area.

At the seminar, speeches delivered emphasized Ban Co people’s glorious combat tradition, their high revolutionary spirit, and overcoming hardship. Ban Co people united to combat against the enemy raids and for democracy. It was also a support for movements of workers, students and Buddhist followers.

The event that Superior Buddhist monk Thich Quang Duc burnt himself on June 11th, 1963 was typical in a series of movements responding to the national revolution.

Following the tradition of older generations, present Ban Co people are studying and working hard to actively contribute to the development of Ban Co and Ho Chi Minh City.

The city has proposed the State to recognize the Ban Co revolutionary base in precinct 3 as a Hero of the People’s Armed Forces in the anti-American resistance war for national salvation.
