Reports at the event revealed that in 2022 the General Staff has directed the whole military to well accomplish regular and unscheduled military and defense missions.

Agencies and units in the whole military have strictly maintained combat readiness and successfully organized joint drills between arms and services, provincial and municipal defensive area exercises, Vietnam – Laos commando exercise, the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022, contributing to enhancing competence and combat readiness capability of the Vietnamese military in the new period.   

Notably, the whole military has strictly observed combat readiness and well managed airspace, waters, borders, inland, and cyberspace. In the year, the General Staff has sent ten delegations to inspect the observance of combat readiness regulation and implementation of military and defense missions at 94 units. The border guard and coast guard forces have closely coordinated with relevant agencies to manage and protect border areas and applied different measures to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The quality of education and training and training of militia force has also been enhanced.

At the event, delegates reviewed obtained outcomes, pointed out shortcomings, and proposed measures to raise effectiveness of the staff work in the coming time. 

Speaking at the conference, the Chief of the General Staff praised outstanding achievements in implementing military and defense work in the whole military in 2022. To enhance the quality and effectiveness of the work in the coming time, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong asked the General Staff to give strategic recommendations to the Party, State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense to issue guidelines and policies to deal with circumstances in a timely manner and flexibly handle issues related to sea, islands, border, and key areas.

He urged the whole military to continue to strictly maintain combat readiness, closely follow and well manage airspace, waters, borders, inland, and cyberspace, especially in key localities, and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to protect security at festivals and important events of the country and military.

An overview of the conference

The Chief of the General Staff asked agencies and units to effectively carry out the Politburo’s Resolution 05, the Central Military Commission’s Resolution 230, and the Ministry of National Defense’s plan on streamlining the Vietnam People’s Army in the 2021-2030 and the years to come. He urged the whole military to foster night, mobility, and intensive training and build plan to respond to circumstances, natural disasters, diseases, and environmental incidents.
