At the meeting, Political Commissar of Military Region 9 Major General Nguyen Van Gau briefed the mission on the military region’s implementation of military and defense tasks in 2021 and its preparations for the upcoming lunar New Year.

According to the report, since 2021, despite challenges, Military Region 9’s armed forces have studied and effectively carried out the General Staff’s directives on military and defense tasks, strictly maintained combat readiness regulations, and successfully organized training activities and festivals in accordance with COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.

In addition, they have closely followed situational developments, effectively fulfilled their advisory role for the Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense, and cooperated with local Party committees and authorities to deal with circumstances to ensure local political security and public orders.

Over the year, the military region’s armed forces have effectively carried out mass mobilization and policy work. In particular, agencies and units in the region have allocated around VND 400 billion to organize “Military-civilian Tet” model and VND 35 billion to build 582 houses.

Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the military region’s armed forces have taken drastic measures to prevent the pandemic from spreading in agencies and units. The military region has mobilized more than 2,300 troops and medical personnel and vehicles to support Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces and other southern localities to take samples for COVID-19 testing, harvest and transport agricultural and aquatic products, and return ashes of COVID-19 victims to their families.

Sr. Lt. Gen. Tran Quang Phuong praised the military region’s armed forces for their achievements in 2021 and asked them to thoroughly study and effectively realize resolutions and directives of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense on training, combat readiness, and regulation building.

The N.A. Vice Chairman asked agencies and units in the region to play the core role in building the whole people’s defense disposition in combination with the whole people’s security disposition and firm defensive areas.

They should have forces and vehicles ready to conduct natural disaster response and search and rescue missions, carry out mass mobilization activities, continue fostering cooperation with Cambodia, and ensure peace and stability in border areas, he added. 

As the lunar New Year is around the corner, Sr. Lt. Gen. Tran Quang Phuong urged agencies and units in the region to hold  safe and happy New Year celebrations for troops while strictly observing the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control regulations.
