Military units brace for ninth storm
PANO - As storm Rai is likely to hit Vietnam, the Ministry of National Defense sent a telegram on natural disaster response to military regions, arms, and services on December 15.

In particular, the Ministry of National Defense instructed military regions 3, 4, 5, 7, the Vietnam Border Guard Command, the Navy, the Air Defense - Air Force Service, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, Army Corps 3, Army Corps 15, and Army Corps 18 to strictly maintain guard duty and closely follow the developments of the storm to respond to circumstances in a timely manner.
According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, at 7 p.m. on December 15, the storm was around 670km to the east-southeast of the Philippines with wind speeds at level 12. In the next 24-48 hours, the storm will move west at a speed of around 20-25km/h. After hitting the Philippines, storm Rai is forecast to enter the East Sea (South China Sea) on late December 17 and early December 18, becoming the ninth storm to affect Vietnam this year.
On December 15, the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control convened a meeting, connecting dozens of coastal localities. At the event, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting was asked to strictly follow the developments of the storm and report to the steering committee, ministries, agencies, and localities to have timely response to the storm.
