At the 9th Military Trade Union Congress |
Present at the opening ceremony were General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief-of-the-General Staff and former senior defense leaders and representatives of central and local agencies.
On behalf of the Permanent Board of the Central Military Commission and the leadership of the General Department of Politics, General Cuong warmly welcomed former defense leaders and 370 outstanding delegates representing tens of thousands of military trade union members across the country.
He stressed that the workers’ movements and the trade union organizations’ operation have been increasingly reformed over the past five years thanks to the sound leadership and instruction of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Politic and Vietnam’s General Confederation of Labor (VGCL).
The Party committees and chains of command of the whole-army units have raised their awareness and responsibilities in accelerating workers’ movements and trade union’s operations. Therefore, trade union organizations at all levels were regularly reinforced and made active contributions to the building of strong Party organizations and comprehensively strong units. They also provided training for their members and encouraged them to actively participate in emulation movements of the units.

Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong addressing the Congress |
Many outstanding examples and models from the emulation drives of trade union organizations have become a strong motivation for workers across the country, he noted.
The GDP’s Director required that the organizing panel of the 9th Military Trade Union Congress should focus on reviewing workers’ movements and trade union’s operations in the whole-army over the past years and mapping out concrete tasks for the next tenure, as well as donating opinions to the VGCL’s draft document, and voting for the delegates to attend higher level congress.
After the opening ceremony, delegates joined the second working session of the Congress with a report delivered by Colonel Nguyen Dinh Duc, head of the Defense Trade Union Board.
Previously, on May 23, the General Department of Politics held a ceremony for delegates at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to report achievements to the late President Ho Chi Minh. In the afternoon of the same day, the first working session of the congress started.
Developments of the 9th Military Trade Union Congress will be continuously updated on the People’s Army Newspaper Online.
