The implementation was highlighted at a press conference held on October 9 in Hanoi by the Ministry of National Defense (MND) on activities in the third quarter of this year, under the chair of Major General Nguyen Van Duc, Head of the Department of Information and Training under the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army.
Present at the conference were representatives from several MND’s agencies, the Border Guard Command and civilian and military press agencies.
The press conference focused on activities in celebration of the Border Guard force’s 60th founding anniversary (March 3, 1959), the 30th Whole People’s Border Day, and the military’s mass mobilization work.
Specifically, as of September this year, the Border Guard has well maintained combat readiness posture, organized successfully provincial and municipal-level defensive area exercises, mobilized thousands of troops and vehicles to rescue, relief, firefighting missions.
They have also conducted defense external affairs, held the third friendship border exchange with the participation of the six countries sharing the border with Vietnam.
Attentively, the Border Guard has carried out plans to prevent cross-border drug-trafficking, handling 8,251 cases and arresting 12,744 suspects.
Besides, military units have worked closely with local party committees and authorities to prevent border encroachment, organize nearly 1,100 self-management groups in charge of borderline and marker protection and raise the public awareness of not violating national sovereignty and illegally carrying out missionary work.
