Speaking at the event, Major General Bui To Viet, Deputy Political Commissar of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, affirmed that in the “Dien Bien Phu in the air” campaign in late December 1972, Division 361 - the main force of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, together with troops and people in the North defeated U.S. air strikes from B-52 bombers and shot down 29 aircraft of all kinds, including 25 B-52 strategic bombers, resulting in the resounding “Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Day, Commanding Officer of Division 361, the “Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory showed the sound leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the people’s resolve to fight against foreign invaders, the great power of national unity, the Party’s guideline on people warfare, and the unique and creative military art of the Vietnam People’s Army, as well as the heroic tradition of the Air Defense - Air Force Service during the resistance war against the U.S. imperialists.
