PANO – Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, on September 9 visited and worked with Viettel (the military-run telecommunication group).
The delegation also included Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Khanh and representatives of defense agencies.
Leaders of Viettel, including its Director General, Major Nguyen Manh Hung, received the delegation.

During the working visit, the Chief of the General Staff toured several research and production facilities and listened to reports from the group’s leaders.
According to the reports, the group has planned to grow 10-15% in 2016 and to execute two key strategies: Striving to become one of the world top 10 companies with largest investment in overseas telecommunication and information technology projects; and building a hi-tech defense industry complex specializing in researching, designing and producing hi-tech weapons and equipment, contributing to firmly protecting the Fatherland.

The groups also continues to research and produce telecommunication infrastructure and equipment, focuses on making 4G equipment and installing the 4G service in 2016, and forms a an expert team to study the production of 5G technology.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission and Defense Ministry, General Giang praised Viettel for its endeavors and achievements over the past time. The senior defense official asked the leadership to grasp the guidelines and instructions of the Party, Central Military Commission and Defense Ministry and to lead the group to expand its economic production and business, and successfully fulfill the defense tasks assigned by the Defense Ministry.
The group was asked to focus on training personnel and developing powerful human resources for its middle- and long-run development.
