A number of general-rank officers from the General Staff, General Department of Politics, and defense agencies accompanied the Defense Minister.
At the meeting with officers and soldiers and Division 308, General Lich and the delegation was briefed by commander of the division, Senior Colonel Truong Manh Dung on the outcomes of the unit’s 2016 task performance as well as its plans for 2017, its combat readiness posture and lunar New Year (Tet) preparations for its officers and soldiers.
According to the reports, the division in 2016 fulfilled all assigned missions, including a number of tasks ended up with excellent results. Particularly, the unit carried out military training in line with the guidance of higher levels commands, stressing on the synchronicity and specialty of training for every sub-unit. To raise the combat maneuverability, the division conducted company-based training on tactics, shooting, driving and swimming skills, and battalion-based integrated exercises. What is more, the division increased night training drives, practiced long-distance and intensive operations in multi-terrain and hash weather conditions.

Thanks to its continuous improvement in training, the division obtained fruitful training results in 2016 as 100% of its officers and soldiers reached the satisfaction grade in the final training examination, including 80% with the good or excellent grades. The division was also ranked high at the whole-army competitions.
Addressing the meeting, the Defense Minister recognized and applauded the achievements of the division.
General Lich asked the unit to continue promoting its glorious and heroic tradition and fostering unity to overcome difficulties to build on a sound and clean Party organization and a comprehensively strong unit with its increasing general quality and fighting ability, satisfying all assignments given by the Party, State, Army and people.

At Commando Task-Force Brigade 1, the Defense Minister and delegation watched martial art performances by troops of the brigade and listened to reports delivered by leaders of the units. General Lich expressed his satisfaction for the unit’s great achievements in the past time and believed that the unit with its heroic tradition will overcome difficulties and accomplish all assigned tasks.
He instructed Party committees and commands at all levels of the division to well perceive their troops’ thoughts, to take due care of the troops during Tet celebration while frequently maintaining combat readiness, strictly observing military regulations and order and denying being driven to a passive position or a tactical surprise in any circumstances.
Besides the core mission of combat readiness, the Defense Minister underscored that the Commando Corps in general and the brigade in particular should focus on improving its capabilities for other major missions, including preventing and fighting terrorism, “Peaceful Evolution” attempts, riots and subversive activities; and participating in protecting major Party, State and Army events.
