An overview of the talks

At the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, Senior Colonel Tran Quang Tuan, Chief of the Vietnamese command, and Major General Nagai Nobukazu held talks, during which they highly praised the solidarity and closeness between the two coast guard forces. They introduced to each other their forces’ formation, development, outstanding achievements and discussed issues of common concern.

In his speech, Senior Colonel Tran Quang Tuan laid stress on the two sides’ coordination, visits, experience exchanges, organization of training courses on coast guard affairs and navigation security in recent years.

He hoped that during this visit to Vietnam, the Japanese delegation will actively share experience with Vietnamese peers. He suggested the two forces further cooperate and exchange experience in enforcing law at sea, contributing to security and safety in waters.

For his part, Major General Nagai Nobukazu expressed his delight at visiting Da Nang city, a tourist destination well-known in Vietnam and the world at large, and Quang Nam province, one of heroic lands in Vietnam’s national salvation and reunification cause, and at exchanging with Coast Guard Region 2's officers and soldiers.

He highlighted exchanges and joint exercise between the two forces in previous visits, thereby enhancing understanding, cooperation between the two forces, and improving law enforcement capability of their troops.

The Japanese general affirmed that the JCG leadership will direct its affiliated agencies to enhance coordination between the two forces and lead crew-members of SETTSU patrol vessel to effectively carry out the joint search and rescue exercise with the Vietnamese coast guard force.

During the visit to the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, the Japanese delegation boarded Ship 8002 and joined a sport exchange with their peers.

The JCG delegation’s visit to Da Nang this time is among activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties, the JCG’s 75th founding anniversary, and the Vietnam Coast Guard’s 25th founding anniversary. The visit will help bolster the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries in general and the bilateral defense ties in particular, helping to lift the two militaries’ defense ties to a new height.
